Oh, we’re so excited. Since one of our favorite shows is The Vampire Diaries, you can only imagine how thrilled we are that spinoff The Originals is arriving on UK shores on Tuesday, courtesy of Syfy. Now, we feel like we already have a pretty good handle on Mr Klaus Mikaelson – played to dastardly effect by Joseph Morgan – but there’s going to be a hell of a lot to find out in the new show, which sees the Original vampire discovering he’s about to become a father and trying to take down his protégé Marcel. It’s a busy life.

We felt like we needed the inside scoop on the vampire formerly known as Niklaus, and if you’ve never seen The Vampire Diaries you might be left wondering what the big deal is. So we called up Joseph himself to ask him to give us some information on the most devilish of devilish vamps…

Klaus keeps his softer side under wraps.
“I feel like he’s conflicted about becoming a father. The thing about Klaus is he’s reluctant to care about anyone or show any kind of love towards anyone because he feels like it would be seen as a sign of weakness and exploited by those who would like to take him down. So I think that’s the main reason behind him putting up these barriers about this child.

“Family’s very important to him so you’d think he’d be all for it, so I feel like he’s going to pendulum a little bit. Or possibly, if he does start to care I think he’ll do his utmost to keep that a secret – to hold that in a secret place.”
